Hatch Show Print is a letterpress printing shop that was originally opened in 1879 in Nashville, Tennessee. Today, Hatch is still an operating letterpress studio, housed in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, printing everything from gig posters to album covers and merchandise. Every season, Hatch welcomes up to four participants out of hundreds of applicants for a six-week internship. I was accepted into Hatch's internship program in the summer of 2025, where I designed and printed posters for six different events.
Letterpress is a relief printing process in which each color is a separate layer that is hand-set using wood type, metal type, or an image, then printed layer by layer to create a final poster. Interns lead the entire process from start to finish: designing the posters, setting all the type, communicating with clients, mixing the ink, and printing all posters.
